Rest management api license

SG 6-22

Just upgraded to SG6 from 5 version. One of key factors that pushed me to do that is rest api and Kibana ui plugin now already bundled to package and available for using without any installation.
After day spent for upgrading regretfully I noticed a small note “Enterprise” in Configuration GUI | Security for Elasticsearch | Search Guard page. Also in Search Guard Security | Securing your Elasticsearch cluster with Search Guard page no mentions about this paid function.

I don’t need any Enterprise features like LDAP integration or audit - I just want to manage users conveniently.

Does this mean that I have to purchase enterprise subscription for that?

The REST management API was never a free feature, you always needed to purchase a license to use it on production systems legally. This was stated on our website, the license files in the repositories and printed in the log files on ES startup.

The Configuration GUI is only available for Search Guard 6, and is not available for Search Guard 5. It does not add anything you can’t do with sgadmin, it’s just convenience features.

So in this sense, nothing changed from Search Guard 5 to Search Guard 6. The licensing is the same and we did not take away any features in Search Guard 6. In fact we added features, also for the Community Version.

The Configuration GUI entry was, in fact, missing on the product page but has been added recently: https://search-guard.com/product/.

Just an FYI. This page 7 is bit misleading. In it, the Community (06. PLUGGABLE MODULES) says REST API is part of Community Edition.

It seems to me the REST API is simply missing in the slide, we will correct that.

However, the Community Edition section on slide 7 does not mention the REST API at all. Where do you see it, maybe I’m blind?
