SSL issue when fluentd trying to connect to elasticsearch using client key, pem and cacert

Elasticsearch: 6.6.2
Kibana: 6.6.2
Elasticsearch_searchguard: 24.2
Kibana_Searchguard: 18.1

i am having an SSL issue while connecting from Fluentd to Elasticsearch.

fluentd is able to talk to Elasticsearch if i use cacert, username and password, but i want to able to connect without user and password in config, please suggest me, Thanks.

As far as I know, fluentd is able to talk to ElasticSearch without cacert when You specify “ssl_verify false” at td-agent.conf.

I do not know Your usecase nor authentication methods available within Your config, but You could consider anonymous authentication if You do not want to store any user or password on fluentd agents.

Please make sure You can connect to ElasticSearch with curl so that we can distinguish if a problem is related to fluentd <-> ElasticSearch communication or ElasticSearch itself.

If this does not help, please provide fluentd configuration (td-agent.conf) and describe in more details what do You want to achieve.

i want fluentd should be ale to connect to Elasticsearch using Client key, pem and cacert only.

we don’t want to include username and password in fluentd, is it possible?

i am able to run curl command from fluentd pod manually using client key, pem and cacert, it’ able to authenticate it.

Thanks for more details. I am happy that ES & SG part is working. The question is related rather to fluentd and its capabilities.

Fluentd configuration mentions following parameters:

client_cert /path/to/your/client/cert
client_key /path/to/your/private/key
client_key_pass password

If this still does not help, td-agent.conf would be helpful.

i have mentioned like below config in fluentd, it doesn’t work., we don’t have any client_key_pass.

By using above 3 keys and running curl command, elasticsearch is able to accessible.

I tried to test it on SearchGuard demo generated instance. The fluentd configuration was like:

ssl_verify       false
ssl_version      TLSv1_2
client_cert      your-path-to/config/kirk.pem
client_key       your-path-to/config/kirk-key.pem

And it works. So the setup You’ve described should be possible and work without client_key_pass.

Please try it first with ssl_verify equal to false, so we can limit potential issues we encounter.
