Some clients get too many redirects

We’re using searchguard@6.8.6-19.0 kibana plugin and matching elasticsearch, and using openid connect.
Some users are getting the following error, and are unable to login:

 too many redirections

I know this is pretty vague, but I just wondered if anyone encountered the same issue. When it happens it does so using any browser. But it only happens for some users. I checked they all have the same role in searchguard.
